Mentorship Program

Mentoring Model

Our mentoring program is designed to promote resilience, healthy development, and successful community reintegration for youth and young adults. Grounded in evidence-informed social work practice, the model provides individualized mentoring that addresses the complex social, emotional, behavioral, and environmental factors influencing youth outcomes.

The mentoring framework integrates:

  • Social Work Theory: Utilizing person-in-environment and systems perspectives to understand each participant within the context of their family, school, peers, and community.
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Recognizing the prevalence and impact of trauma while creating emotionally and physically safe relationships that foster healing, trust, empowerment, and resilience.
  • Ecological Systems Theory: Addressing the multiple systems that influence youth development, including family, schools, neighborhoods, community organizations, and juvenile justice agencies.
  • Strengths-Based Practice: Identifying and building upon each youth’s existing strengths, talents, protective factors, cultural assets, and aspirations rather than focusing solely on deficits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Principles (CBT): Helping youth recognize the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing healthier coping strategies, emotional regulation, and decision-making skills.
  • Solution-Focused Strategies: Encouraging youth to identify goals, recognize previous successes, and develop practical action steps that support sustainable change.
  • Cultural Humility and Equity-Centered Practice: Ensuring services are culturally responsive, affirming, and inclusive while recognizing the impact of race, culture, identity, systemic inequities, and community context on each participant’s experiences.

Staffing Model

Program staff will include licensed social workers, certified educators, and trained paraprofessionals who have completed specialized training in the Holistic Wellness Mentorship Model. All staff will receive ongoing professional development in trauma-informed care, cultural humility, adolescent development, restorative practices, motivational interviewing, de-escalation strategies, and positive youth development. This multidisciplinary team will provide individualized, relationship-centered mentoring that addresses the emotional, behavioral, educational, social, and vocational needs of participants while promoting resilience, accountability, and long-term well-being.

Licensed social workers will provide clinical oversight, case coordination, psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, and referrals to community resources as needed. Educators will support academic engagement, learning strategies, and educational/vocational goal attainment. Trained paraprofessionals and mentors, many of whom reflect the cultural backgrounds and lived experiences of the youth served, will deliver consistent mentoring, skill-building activities, community engagement, and positive role modeling. Together, staff will implement a holistic, strengths-based approach that empowers youth to build healthy relationships, develop life skills, achieve personal goals, and successfully reintegrate into their families, schools, and communities.
